Why I chose counselling and continue to love OH Card exploration

What first drew me to psychology was curiosity about people. Why do some experiences stay with us for so long? When someone has tried hard yet remains caught in similar difficulties, how might new possibilities emerge?

Through study and practice, I began to see the changes counselling can make in real lives. Some people found words for something they had held inside for years. Others began to understand why relationships kept hurting in familiar ways. Some found more strength to act when facing an important choice. These experiences led me to commit to counselling as long-term work.

I believe people have the capacity to keep growing

Humanistic thinking is an important part of how I work. I believe people can come to know themselves and have the right to choose where they want to go. A difficulty may temporarily obscure someone’s needs and strengths. In a relationship where they are listened to carefully, feelings that once seemed chaotic may gradually become clearer.

That is why I pay attention to how you tell your own story. You do not need to offer the “correct” feeling or transform your life in one session. We can begin with what matters most to you now: what you have been carrying, what you have tried, and what you still hope to make possible for yourself.

Different experiences have taught me to listen more closely

I have worked in public institutions and state-owned companies, including management roles. I later went abroad for a master’s degree and continued on to doctoral study. I have known responsibility and collaboration at work, as well as the experience of changing direction and returning to study.

These working and learning experiences have broadened my understanding of people. When someone brings a question about work, relationships or life choices, I want to understand what it means to that person and the circumstances they are facing. Similar questions can carry very different weight in different lives.

For years, I have continued learning counselling, OH Cards and related approaches from different teachers, alongside my own therapy and professional supervision. I have seven years of psychology-related work experience, including more than 2,000 hours of one-to-one client sessions, and more than 1,000 hours of personal therapy. These experiences have given me practice. They also remind me that each person deserves to be understood as an individual.

OH Cards are an approach I love and keep developing

I value OH Cards because they can offer a way to begin expressing something. A person may have carried a feeling for years but be unable to answer, “What is wrong?” With an image, they may begin to notice what they fear, what they are reluctant to lose, and what they hope for. When appropriate, I may combine this with imagery dialogue to explore how those feelings connect with their life.

I have worked with OH Cards for many years. I have seen them help many people express themselves more clearly, and I have seen some longstanding difficulties begin to loosen. When clients take something from our conversation into daily life and try new choices or ways of relating, I feel genuine joy in their effort and growth.

I am grateful to everyone who has trusted me. I will keep learning, receiving supervision and taking care with the work I love.
